Coffee Cultural Landscape

An area of the 51 municipalities of the departments of Caldas, Quindío, Risaralda and Valle del Cauca, make up the Coffee Cultural Landscape declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

In this mountainous ecosystem, located in the central and western ramifications of the Andes Mountains, an outstanding example of coffee growing in a hillside area was developed, which constitutes an exceptional case in the world.

In these areas, the efforts of communities that have passed from generation to generation, a strong institutional support, a culture rooted in gastronomy, architecture and cultural representations and the presence of great biological diversity combine. Everything to produce a smooth, high-quality coffee that is collected bean by bean and that is benefited with water that comes from the Parque de los Nevados.

Caldas municipalities of the Coffee cultural landscape: Aguadas, Anserma Aranzazu, Belalcázar, Chinchiná, Filadelfia, La Merced, Manizales Neira, Pácora, Palestina, Riosucio, Risaralda, Salamina, San José, Supía, Villamaría and Viterbo.

This hilly ecosystem located on the center and western branch of the Andes mountains, has developed as an excellent example of coffee growing on hillside, and represents an exceptional world circumstance.

In this area, communities work has been performed from generation to generation, a strong institutional support, traditional gastronomy, architecture, cultural representations, and biodiversity have come together to produce high quality mild coffee, collected bean by bean, and wet-processed, with Water coming from the Los Nevados National Park.
